HISTORY
of
FIRST
UNITED CHURCH, UCC
In 1849 First United German Evangelical and Reform Church established
itself as part of the culture and romance of historic Fells Point.
During the ethnic and cultural renaissance of Fells Point, First
United Church, UCC has been and continues to remain a viable and
active participant within the community. For over 150 years, First
United Church has amazed visitors with the detail and beauty of
its stain glass windows and charmed them with the warmth and hospitality
of its congregation.
Our
mission is to offer our time and our talents to the surrounding
area working with the greater community in making a difference.
Our ministry is to offer God's message of love and healing to all
who enter.
First
United Church is growing and looking at ways to continue and expand
our presence in the community. Our actions towards fulfilling our
mission as individuals and as a community can be seen in our working
relationships with such groups as: The Supper Club, United Ministries,
Inc., Churches United Against AIDS, Baltimore United Church Ministries,
the Fells Point Creative Alliance and other collaborative efforts
that are helping to transform our neighborhood and our city.
We
gather each Sunday at 10:45a.m. to worship God and to deepen our
spiritual walk. Every Wednesday evening at The Supper Club we help
to serve 100 hungry men, women, and children. We belive God's gospel
is simple: "... I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this
to the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it to me"
Matthew 25: 35-40. We welcome all visitors and newcomers to the
area with open arms and a friendly smile. We pray that all who enter
our doors find a haven for worship. For those who choose to continue
their journey with us we offer the opportunity of a spiritual home.
Come
join us as we continue 157 years of listening, caring and giving.
